Error 0xC8000408 Trying To Update Windows XP

Description

It’s not uncommon that Windows get into trouble updating.

Solution

The service automatic updates execute using the SYSTEM group, if this doesn’t have permissions to access your computer drives it cannot work.

Windows 2000 allows access to C: by default but in Windows XP it is not the same.

1. Press Windows Key + E.

2. Go to the Tools menu and select Folder Options…

image3.  Go to View Tab, uncheck Use simple file sharing (Recommended) and press  Ok.

4. Right click on the system drive, usually is C:.

5. Go to the security Tab, press add and select group system.

6. Allow Full control for this group.
