Description

When trying to see the update history of your computer it doesn’t display anything. You only see a blank page.

If you look into the Event Viewer, an event id 490 is at Application folder with 0xfffffbf8 error. Like you see in the next image:

Solution.

As have explained in this web before the Windows Update Client program use the system user to access this kind of information.

The file with every installed updated is in %systemroot%/SoftwareDistribution/DataStore as its name is DataStore.edb. If you don’t have access to it you will see this behaviour.

To try to solve, you need to use an administration user.

1. Stop the windows update service.

a. Press Windows Key + R, type services.msc and press enter.

b.  Look for the Windows Update service:

imagec. Right click and select Stop.

2. Remove the %systemroot/SoftwareDistribution folder.

a. Press Windows Key + R, type %systemroot% and press enter.

b. Right click and select delete:

If you have problems doing this you have to take ownership of that folder:

a. Right click in the folder and select properties.

b. Go to the security Tab.

c. Press Advance

d. Type Edit and change the owner to the administration group, press ok on every open window.

Windows will create it again the next time you use windows update.

Next time you open windows update you will see something like this:

Click check for updates to let Windows Update Work.
